Collection consists of the personal and professional papers of the poet, artist, and professor, Ramon Guthrie. Includes poems (holographs and typescripts) from his books Graffiti (published as: Graffiti. -- New York : Macmillan, c1959), Asbestos phoenix (published as: Asbestos phoenix. -- New York : Funk and Wagnalls, c[1968]), and Maximum security ward (published as: Maximum security ward, 1964-1970. -- New York : Farrar, Straus & Giroux, c[1970]); notes and drafts for Asbestos phoenix and notes, drafts, typescripts, and galleys for Maximum security ward are also included, as well as the typescript for an autobiographical work, Instead of Abel. Correspondence, financial records, material related to his career as a professor at Dartmouth College, reviews by him or about his work, and photographs are also included in the collection, as well as some speeches and essays about war and the Vietnam war.

Guthrie was born in New York City in 1896, the son of Harry and Ella May Hollister Guthrie. He attended the Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Mass. from 1912 to 1915.
